Blue Angels

Fleet Week came roaring into San Francisco, first with the parade of ships followed by the aerial stunts of the Blue Angels, the Patriotic team and the Oracle fliers.

The ships dock at four different piers along the waterfront and grant access to the public for three days. Although we didn't climb aboard we did stroll along the Embarcadero to Pier 39, where we feasted at Boudin's (one of our favorite local chains) for the first time since arriving back in town. We wandered around the shops and stopped to listen to the sea lions grunt while the stunt planes twirled above.

Our feet padded up to Ghirardelli Square where hundreds of people packed onto the lawn and the concert bleachers... so we continued to venture over the hill to Fort Mason. We watched the different planes twist and spin and roar overhead.

We stopped into a photography show also going on at Fort Mason with just enough time to wander through the art, talk to an artist and then back outside for the Blue Angels grand finale.

When they fly overhead your left in a state of awe. It's amazing how close they can fly and how graceful they look. Then the sound waves rattle your body a few seconds later and you remember just why these machines were built.
